Jean-Michel Blais with LUKA

Embrace presents
Jean-Michel Blais
Saturday, November 19, 2016
in The Great Hall’s Main Hall

Jean-Michel Blais is an enigmatic 32-year-old  Montreal composer and pianist who has been creating music for over two decades, but was only really introduced to the world via his debut album Il  via Arts & Crafts in April 2016. Improvisation is at the heart of all his songs; Blais spent two years making the record in his home by improvising daily. His enchanting instrumental compositions pair the melodic pop sensibilities of Amélie-era Yann Tiersen and Arts & Crafts alumni Chilly Gonzales with the breathtaking technical skill of classical minimalists like Philip Glass, Lubomyr Melnyk and Erik Satie. This virtuoso, and recent former CGEP professor, will enchant you with a collection of piano compositions that capture joy, fear, contemplation and playfulness as well as the moments where we see beauty in busy, bustling modern life. Hear Jean-Michel Blais live in Toronto at The Great Hall.

Opening act: Toronto’s LUKA, “armed with a nylon string guitar, a warrior of the romance ballad.”

Listen: Jean Michel-Blais, Nostos ft. BUFFLO
