10th Annual Basement Revue

Welcome to the acclaimed Basement Revue, a truly unique night of music, poetry and special guests curated and hosted by Jason Collet and poet, and Walrus poetry editor, Damian Rogers.

This wildly popular variety show series sells out every season without the performers’ names ever being announced. Loyal audiences have learned to expect to see a veritable who’s who of contemporary Canadian fiction, music, and poetry gathered in a cross-pollinating event. The mystery of not knowing who might be called to the stage next provides a certain type of unpredictable excitement.

Over the years, the Basement Revue has debuted original collaborations by notable pairings such as Feist and Michael Ondaatje, A Tribe Called Red and Joseph Boyden, and that time when Margaret Atwood stepped up to the mic in front of one of Toronto’s most celebrated bands and said with her deadpan wit, “Hit it, Sadies.”

Designed as “a showcase and an incubator for Canadian culture,” last year’s Basement Revue featured performances, readings and discussions with Joseph Boyden, A Tribe Called Red, Gord Downie, Kevin Drew, Naomi Klein, Jennifer Castle, Lido Pimienta, Leanne Simpson and more.

Previous years also showcased appearances from the likes of Broken Social Scene, Daniel Lanois, Rufus Wainwright, Bahamas, Hydra, Snowblink, Andy Kim, Torquil Campbell of Stars, Jimmy Shaw of Metric, Buck 65, K-OS, Tanika Charles, John K. Samson, Hayden, Whitehorse, Arkells, Bry Webb, Alvvays, Tanya Tagaq, Hannah Georgas, Charlotte Day Wilson, TUNS, and many more.
