The Big Sound

The Big Sound is back, Toronto! The 6’s finest celebration of the golden era of soul and Motown makes its long-awaited return to our freshly restored The Great Hall, Friday, September 23, 2016. Get ready for their latest foot stompin’, heart pumpin’, sweet lovin’ soul party, right here.

The Big Sound is a 20-piece-plus live band and massive super group of Toronto’s best-loved musicians. With around two dozen outstanding performers, it’s the closest approximation you’ll likely ever enjoy to the complete, original spectacle that was big Motown Sound. Strings, horns, back-up singers, the whole real, mini-orchestra deal.

Uniting from across the city’s urban, indie rock, pop, R&B and jazz scene, The Big Sound performs major hits from The Jackson 5, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and many more, as well as deeper cuts they  recognize deserve to be recreated live. This true all-star band channels the atmosphere of Motown, Stax, Atlantic, Chess, Ric-Tic, Phillies, Hi-Records and all the great labels.  As they put it, “Big renditions of the big classics,” all guaranteed to make you want to shout, shake and, yes, sing along.

As always, you can dance the night away to the originals before and after the set, as spun by supreme DJs Wes Allen (Under the Influence) and Matt Cully (Goin’ Steady DJs/Chronologic).

Don’t miss this truly one-of-a-kind Toronto party, The Big Sound — at The Great Hall!
